Training information


Below are some frequently asked questions on training information for workers and employers.

Employers are legally required to set up and maintain an OHC at workplaces with 10 or more workers. If your workplace has between five and nine workers and is a prescribed workplace as described in the regulations, you are required to appoint an OHC representative.

An OHC works with employers and workers to create a healthy and safe work environment by detecting OHC hazards. The OHC also develops practical approaches to eliminate or control those hazards.

All members must obtain their OHC Level 1. There is no prerequisite for attending this course.

By the end of this course, OHC members and occupational health and safety (OHS) representatives will know:

How to locate relevant information in Saskatchewan OHC legislation to address OHS issues in their workplace.
The requirements for establishing and operating an effective OHC.
The duties and role of the OHC within the OHC workplace responsibility rystem.
How to identify and assess the workplace hazards.
How to identify and recommend corrective actions to control the workplace hazards.
How to handle OHC concerns and how to investigate refusals at work.

OHC co-chairpersons and OHS representatives are required to also take their OHC Level 2 training.

By the end of this course, co-chairpersons and representatives will know how to:

Plan and conduct a OHC workplace inspection.
Identify and assess deficiencies during OHC workplace inspections.
Identify and recommend corrective actions that address deficiencies found during OHC workplace inspections.
Fulfill their regulatory requirement of investigating workplace incidents and dangerous occurrences.
Collect and analyze evidence during an investigation.
Identify and assess direct, indirect and root causes of workplace incidents and dangerous occurrences.
Identify and recommend corrective actions to prevent workplace incidents and dangerous occurrences from happening again.

All supervisors, defined by Saskatchewan occupational health and safety legislation as a person who is authorized by an employer to oversee or direct the work of the employer’s worker, must take this course.

All supervisors, as defined above, must obtain their supervision and safety certificate. There is no prerequisite to take this course.

Virtual training is live and instructor-led, taking place on the Microsoft Teams platform. Virtual training is offered on specific dates, running from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

On-demand training is self-directed and you can access it at any time. You can complete this style of training at your own leisure. This format is pre-recorded.

SkillsPass is a free, secure online system that tracks your OHC and supervision and safety training and certification with WorkSafe Saskatchewan. In addition, you can access and share all of your training and certification with current and future employers, training providers and site inspectors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The SkillsPass platform was created by Bluedrop and exceeds the highest government standards or privacy and data security. SkillsPass delivers and validates sills and credentials across multi-stakeholder environments.

Microsoft Teams is a virtual meeting platform that is used by our instructors to teach OHC Level 1, Level 2, and supervision and safety training. You will receive a Teams meeting link to join the course when you register through SkillsPass/Bluedrop. Students will not need a microphone or camera and those options will be disabled during the course.

Every registered learner will need their own personal computer to use for the duration of the course. Group learning on one computer is not permitted. Each individual will need to use the chat function for class participation and the final exam.

You will receive an email from Bluedrop notifying you of your certificate being available.

Log into the worker portal at worksafesask.bluedrop.io/portal-one

If you don’t know your password, click the “Forgot Password” option. You will receive a password reset email. Remember to check your “Junk” folder.

Once logged in, select the “My Certificates” menu to view all your certificates.

Select the “…” menu and then select “Download” to download/print your certificate.

WorkSafe Saskatchewan certificates do not expire, however, we do encourage learners to retake courses as legislation changes.

Occupational Health Committee (OHC) Level 1 is an introductory course for OHC members and occupational health and safety (OHS) representatives. This free course is available in both instructor-led online and in-class formats.

Occupational Health Committee (OHC) Level 2 is required for OHC co-chairs and OHS representatives.
This free course takes a closer look at the OHC’s/OHS representatives role in workplace inspections and incident investigations.

This free course is intended for anyone who directs the work of other people and informs supervisors of their legal responsibilities to ensure safety in the workplace.
